Our Commitment to Reducing Environmental Impact
At Gastech, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact by going beyond compliance. That means raising our internal standards and continually improving how we operate.
Aluminium recycling is one of the most effective ways to lower energy use and waste, and it’s something we take seriously. Unlike producing new aluminium, which requires mining and refining bauxite ore through the Bayer process, recycling simply involves re-melting existing metal. This process uses just 5% of the energy required to make aluminium from scratch, making it both efficient and environmentally responsible.
Free Gas Cylinder Recycling for Our Customers
To support these sustainability goals, we offer a free recycling service for expired and empty calibration gas cylinders. There’s no charge to our customers. We handle the collection, processing, and recycling to ensure cylinders don’t end up in landfill.
We also stock green cylinders from PortaGas, which include a convenient strip-and-ship return system. When your cylinder is empty, simply mark it as empty or expired and use the provided return details. It’s simple, free, and keeps valuable materials in use.
Ruby – The Original Face of Our Recycling Program
As a way to bring the story to life, we introduced Ruby, a young koala from Caversham Wildlife Park, as the face of our gas cylinder recycling program. All proceeds from the program have been donated to the park to support koala care and conservation.
Ruby’s journey, from a tiny joey to a healthy five-year-old now living at Moonlit Sanctuary, is a reflection of what small actions can lead to when we work together for a good cause.
Diva – Continuing the Story
When Ruby moved on to her new home, our program entered an exciting new chapter. We’re proud to introduce Diva, a new baby koala who will now be the face of our recycling program.
Diva is just six months old, curious, and full of personality. She has the fluffy grey ears, bright eyes, and gentle nature that make koalas so loved, and she’s quickly capturing the hearts of everyone at Caversham Wildlife Park. Her arrival is especially meaningful to Gastech — she is named in honour of Mark’s mum, one of our company’s original founding members, who has always been a strong supporter of conservation and community initiatives.
By following Diva’s growth and adventures, we hope to inspire more people to take part in our free gas cylinder recycling program. Just as Diva will grow and thrive with care and protection, our environment can too — if we take small, consistent actions to protect it.
We’ll be sharing updates on Diva’s milestones, from learning to climb confidently to her first tastes of eucalyptus leaves. These moments will remind us all that sustainability is about both protecting what we have now and ensuring a better future for the generations to come.
