BW RigRat
Transportable Area Gas Monitor
The Honeywell BW RigRat is a transportable multi gas area monitor that makes site wide gas monitoring simple. Just place it nearby and it alerts workers to gas hazards in the area. It monitors up to six gases, and several units form a wireless safety perimeter: when one alarms, they all alarm. With up to 8 weeks of runtime on the low power model, a 3.5 inch colour display, a 108 dBA alarm, smartphone setup and Honeywell TouchPoint Plus compatibility, it suits turnarounds, confined spaces, fence lines and zone declassification.
KEY BENEFITS
- When one RigRat in a wireless chain alarms, all units alarm simultaneously: workers across the entire monitored area are alerted instantly
- Units can be removed from the system without reconfiguring the wireless network
- Up to 8 weeks of runtime on a single charge (low power model), extendable with line power
- Pumped or diffusion models available: pumped for remote sampling, diffusion for direct area detection
- Up to 6 sensors simultaneously from a broad range covering LEL, CO2, VOC, CO, H2S, SO2, O2, NO, NO2, HCN, NH3 and Cl2

Area Monitoring That Covers the Zone, Not Just the Worker
A personal gas detector protects the person wearing it. The BW RigRat protects the area. Placed around a tank, at a pipe junction, along a fence line or at a confined space entry, it monitors the atmosphere continuously and alerts everyone nearby when conditions become unsafe.
Honeywell describes it as the most user friendly area monitor of its kind. One button operation means workers can grab it and go, with no special expertise needed.
A Wireless Safety Perimeter
Several BW RigRat monitors can be positioned to form a wireless safety perimeter of up to 16 units. When any monitor in the system detects a gas alarm, all the others alarm too, so workers across the area are warned at the same time.
Units can be taken out of the system for repositioning or servicing without reconfiguring the network. The mesh radio reaches up to 300 m between units, and the Wireless Assistant screen shows signal strength between them, so monitors can be positioned for the best coverage.
Built for Long Deployments
The low power model runs for up to 8 weeks on a single charge of its 26.4 Ah Li-ion battery, which Honeywell says is longer than any area monitor in its class. For longer deployments, an intrinsically safe line power supply extends runtime in the field.
The BW RigRat comes in pumped and diffusion models. The pumped model draws samples from a remote point, such as inside a confined space, while the diffusion model monitors the air at the instrument. The pumped model is rated IP65 and the diffusion model IP67, and the diffusion model works down to -40°C.
Simple to Set Up and Connect
Setup is done with a smartphone, using a mobile app for alarm setpoints, calibration records and more. Datalogs and calibration certificates can be emailed straight from the app.
Three relay outputs drive external controllers and site alarms, and a 4 to 20 mA input accepts signals from other devices. The BW RigRat is compatible with the Honeywell TouchPoint Plus controller, and works with Honeywell’s remote monitoring software to show gas readings and location from any internet connected device. GPS gives the outdoor location of each unit.
Options for More Data
Optional noise and wind sensors add extra site information alongside gas readings. An inert mode prevents alarms in normal ambient air, and an optional protective cage adds extra protection on rugged sites.

When any one BW RigRat in a wireless chain detects a gas alarm, all other units in the chain immediately alarm simultaneously. Workers across the entire monitored area receive the alert at the same time, regardless of their position relative to the affected unit.
Units can be taken out of the system without reconfiguring the wireless network. The remaining monitors keep running normally.
The pumped model draws samples from a remote location continuously, suited to monitoring confined spaces from a safe position outside the hazard zone. The diffusion model detects gases at the instrument position, suited to perimeter and open area monitoring. The diffusion model also operates to -40°C compared to -20°C for the pumped model.
The low power model runs for up to 8 weeks on a single charge. Other models vary by configuration. An intrinsically safe line power supply extends runtime for longer deployments.
The BW RigRat supports up to 6 sensors simultaneously from a broad range covering LEL, CO2, VOC, CO, H2S, SO2, O2, NO, NO2, HCN, NH3 and Cl2.
Yes. Three relay outputs allow the RigRat to drive external controllers and site alarm systems, enabling gas detection events to trigger wider site safety responses automatically.
