PID (VOC)

PID Gas Detectors for Volatile Organic Compound Detection Across Industry

Photoionisation detection (PID) technology detects volatile organic compounds at concentrations that electrochemical sensors cannot reach. Where a standard 4-gas detector monitors for common safety hazards, a PID instrument detects the full spectrum of VOCs. From common industrial solvents and petroleum hydrocarbons to benzene, toluene, formaldehyde and hundreds of other organic compounds that pose long-term health risks at very low concentrations.

Gastech supplies a strong range of PID gas detectors suited to industrial hygiene, environmental monitoring, confined space assessment, hazmat response, emissions monitoring and VOC leak detection across Australian and international industry.

The Tiger XT by ION Science is the most advanced handheld VOC detector on the market. It detects from 1 ppb down to 0.001 ppm through to 20,000 ppm, the widest range of any portable VOC detector available globally. Patented Fence Electrode Technology gives it independently verified best-in-class performance for humidity resistance and contamination rejection. For benzene-specific monitoring and BTEX analysis, the Tiger XT Select uses a 10.0 eV lamp for targeted benzene detection alongside broader VOC screening. The Tiger PPB extends the lower detection limit even further for ultra-trace VOC applications.

For combined multi-gas and PID detection in a single instrument, the MultiRAE Pro and QRAE 3 from Honeywell provide VOC monitoring alongside standard toxic and combustible gas detection. The ppbRAE 3000 is particularly well suited to industrial hygiene and environmental survey work where sub-ppb sensitivity is required. The MiniRAE Series provides a compact PID option for general VOC screening and leak detection.

Choosing the right PID instrument depends on the lowest concentration you need to detect, the specific VOCs of concern, whether combined multi-gas monitoring is needed, and whether the environment is humid or contaminated. Our technical team can help you identify the right instrument for your application.

Every PID detector Gastech supplies is backed by our in-house service and calibration team across WA, NSW and QLD and internationally.
