A fixed gas detector runs continuously. It does not need a worker nearby to function – it monitors the atmosphere around the clock and alerts the control room, site alarm system or connected controller the moment gas concentrations exceed safe limits. For facilities where hazardous gases are present as a permanent or recurring risk, fixed gas detection is not optional. It is the baseline layer of protection that personal monitors and area monitors build on.

Gastech supplies fixed gas detection equipment across four primary subcategories. Gas transmitters are the most widely used fixed detection instruments – a sensor head that detects the target gas and transmits a 4-20 mA or digital signal to a controller or alarm panel. Controllers receive signals from multiple transmitters and manage alarm outputs, relay contacts and system-level responses. Open path detectors monitor a beam of infrared light across a long distance, detecting gas clouds that cross the beam path, suited to large open areas, loading bays and offshore facilities where point detection cannot provide adequate coverage. Wireless fixed detectors bring permanent-style monitoring to locations where running cable is impractical or too costly.

Gastech also manufactures its own range of fixed gas detectors under the D-Guard, B-Guard, S-Guard and G-Pro product families – designed, built and supported at our Wangara facility in WA. These proprietary products give Gastech customers the advantage of dealing directly with the manufacturer for technical support, custom engineering and long-term service.
