testo 512-2
Differential Pressure Meter
The testo 512-2 is a digital differential pressure meter with a large measuring range up to 2,000 hPa, for higher pressure work such as checking gas flow pressure and static gas pressure on burners. Its position independent sensor gives reliable readings however the instrument is held, and an audible alarm sounds when a limit is exceeded. Over Bluetooth, the testo Smart App shows the measurement curve, stores data and emails reports on site.
KEY BENEFITS
- Position independent sensor, so the reading does not change with how the instrument is held
- Large measuring range up to 2,000 hPa, ten times the range of the testo 512-1
- Checks gas flow pressure and static gas pressure on burners quickly and precisely
- Audible alarm sounds when a limit value is exceeded
- Smart App turns a phone into a second screen, showing the curve in real time

A Large Range for Higher Pressures
The testo 512-2 measures differential pressure up to 2,000 hPa, ten times the range of the testo 512-1. That suits work where pressures run higher than in building ventilation, such as checking gas flow pressure and static gas pressure on burners, and situations where the pressure range isn’t known in advance.
Across that range, accuracy is ±0.5% of the measuring range, with 1 hPa resolution, and the sensor withstands an overload of up to ±2,500 hPa.
Why Position Independent Matters
This is the specification that separates a good differential pressure meter from an ordinary one, and it’s rarely explained.
Many differential pressure sensors are affected by the way the instrument is held. A reading taken with the instrument flat can differ slightly from one taken upright, so a technician either zeroes it in the exact position they’ll measure in, or accepts an error they can’t quantify.
The testo 512-2 uses a position independent sensor, so the reading stays reliable however the instrument is held.
testo 512-2 or testo 512-1?
The two instruments look the same, but they’re built for different jobs.
| testo 512-1 | testo 512-2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Measuring range | 0 to 200 hPa | 0 to 2,000 hPa |
| Resolution | 0.001 hPa (0 to 2 hPa) | 1 hPa |
| Accuracy | ±(0.3 Pa + 1% of reading) up to 25 hPa | ±0.5% of measuring range |
| Air velocity and volume flow (Pitot tube) | Yes | No |
| Best suited to | Filter checks, Pitot tube duct measurement, low pressure ventilation work | Higher pressures, including gas pressure on burners |
Most building HVAC work sits well inside 200 hPa. For filter checks, room pressure and Pitot tube duct traverses, the testo 512-1 gives much finer resolution and calculates velocity and volume flow. The testo 512-2 is the choice where pressures are higher.
Our Technical Consultants can help you choose, based on the pressures you’ll actually be measuring.
The Phone as a Second Screen
The free testo Smart App connects over Bluetooth 5.0. It configures the instrument, displays the measurement as a graph, and saves the data. It also manages customers and measuring points, and creates reports on site, including photos, as PDF or CSV files that can be emailed straight away.
On a commissioning or service job, a measurement curve shown to the client on a phone is more persuasive than a number read out from an instrument, particularly when the point being made is that something isn’t performing.
Alarms and Durability
An audible alarm sounds when a limit value is exceeded, so a reading outside the expected range is flagged immediately. The compact, robust housing weighs 191 g, and 3 AA batteries give about 120 hours of operation.
Accessories and Calibration
The testo 512-2 comes with a transport bag, silicone connection hose, calibration protocol and batteries. A Bluetooth printer is available for on site printouts.
An ISO pressure calibration certificate, covering five points across the range, and a DAkkS certificate, covering 11 points, are available. That matters where the measurement supports a commissioning certificate or a compliance position.
Where It’s Used
Gas flow pressure and static gas pressure checks on burners. Higher pressure differential measurements on plant. Industrial ventilation and process applications where pressures exceed 200 hPa. Situations where the pressure range isn’t known in advance.

The reading doesn't change with how the instrument is held, so it stays reliable whether the instrument is flat, upright or at an angle.
No. Velocity and volume flow calculation is on the testo 512-1 only. For Pitot tube duct measurement, choose the testo 512-1.
The 512-1 measures up to 200 hPa with fine resolution, and calculates velocity and volume flow. It suits filter checks and ventilation work. The 512-2 measures up to 2,000 hPa, and suits higher pressures, such as gas pressure on burners.
A transport bag, silicone connection hose, calibration protocol and 3 AA batteries.
Configure the instrument, show the measurement curve, store data, manage customers and measuring points, and create and email reports as PDF or CSV on site.
Yes. An audible alarm sounds when a limit value is exceeded.
