2000 Series Regulators

Demand Flow Calibration Gas Regulators

If your instrument has a pump, this is the regulator. A demand flow regulator works on negative pressure, supplying gas only as the pump draws it and at whatever rate the pump wants. That lets the instrument set the flow instead of the regulator, which is the only way to calibrate a pumped detector correctly.

KEY BENEFITS

  •   Designed specifically for instruments that use a pump to draw calibration gas
  •   Works on negative pressure, so the instrument sets the flow rate rather than the regulator
  •   Two stage design for stable delivery
  •   Removes the starving and over-pressurising problems a fixed flow regulator causes
  •   One regulator covers instruments with different pump rates

A pumped instrument is trying to draw its own sample, and a fixed flow regulator interferes with that in one of two ways.

Supply less than the pump wants and it draws in ambient air to make up the difference, diluting the sample so the reading comes out low. Supply more than it wants and the excess pressurises the sensor, so the reading comes out high. Both look like instrument faults and neither is, which makes the wrong regulator the commonest cause of a calibration that fails for reasons unconnected to the detector.

A demand flow regulator solves it by waiting. It opens on the negative pressure the pump creates and delivers exactly what is drawn, so the flow rate is whatever the pump asks for.

That also means one regulator suits instruments with different pump rates, which matters on a mixed fleet where a fixed flow regulator would need to be matched to each model.

If the instrument has a pump, you need one. Diffusion instruments use a 700 Series fixed flow regulator instead.

Because it either starves the pump, which dilutes the sample and reads low, or over-supplies it, which pressurises the sensor and reads high.

No. The pump determines the flow, which is the point of a demand flow design.
