The SafEye 400 is a UV open-path (line-of-sight) gas detection system providing PPM-level monitoring of hydrogen sulfide, ammonia and aromatic gases over an optical path of up to 100 m. It has since been superseded by the Quasar 950/960.
KEY BENEFITS
- PPM-level detection of H2S, ammonia and aromatic gases
- One system replaces several point detectors over up to 100 m
- Fast response time of up to 10 seconds
- Flash source immune to false alarms from sunlight and flames
- Alignment tolerance of plus or minus half a degree

UV Open-Path Detection of Toxic and Aromatic Gases
The SafEye Model 400 monitors toxic and aromatic gases at low concentrations over an optical path of up to 100 m (330 ft), with a fast response time of up to 10 seconds. Its unique flashing UV light source makes it immune to false alarms from direct or reflected sunlight, flares and other black-body radiation.
The detector delivers a very powerful radiation signal for less than one millisecond at pre-selected intervals, so it responds only to fast changes in gas concentration while ignoring background radiation. Special optics provide an alignment tolerance of plus or minus half a degree in all directions.
Factory calibrated across the full operating temperature range with automatic temperature compensation and Automatic Gain Control, the SafEye 400 is designed for high-speed airflows, humidity and corrosive gas environments where point detectors may not be effective.
Benefits

- Performs in high-speed airflows, humidity and corrosive gases
- Not subject to poisoning
- 4-20 mA and RS-485 networking of up to 64 detectors
- Automatic temperature compensation and gain control

It detects toxic gases such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and ammonia (NH3), plus aromatic hydrocarbons like benzene, toluene, xylene and styrene.
The SafEye 400 monitors over an optical path of up to 100 m (330 ft), depending on the model selected.
The UV flash gives a very powerful signal for less than a millisecond, so the detector addresses only fast changes in gas concentration and ignores solar, flame and other background radiation.
Yes. The SafEye 400 has been superseded by the Quasar 950/960.
It is ATEX/CENELEC certified (EX II 2G EExd IIB+H2 T6) and UL listed under E209870 for Class I Groups C and D hazardous locations.
