ARA

Single Gas Detectors

The ARA by ION Science is a personal, disposable single gas detector for H2S, CO, SO2 and O2 that provides instantaneous alarms for life-critical safety scenarios. With 24 months of continuous maintenance-free operation, a single button interface and live gas readings, the ARA is one of the simplest and most cost-effective personal gas detectors available. For H2S and CO applications, a hibernation model extends the effective operating life up to 36 months, making it ideal for contractors and hire fleets where instruments are used intermittently rather than daily.

KEY BENEFITS

  •   24 months continuous maintenance-free operation as standard
  •   36-month hibernation model available for H2S and CO, ideal for intermittent use and site contractors
  •   Live gas readings with instantaneous alarm for life-critical safety
  •   Single button operation, simple to use without training
  •   Adjustable low and high alarm set points

Simple. Disposable. Reliable. The ARA Does What a Personal Gas Detector Should.

The ARA was designed for one purpose: to keep workers safe from toxic gas exposure and oxygen hazards without adding complexity to their day. There is no charging, no sensor replacement, no scheduled servicing and no ongoing maintenance. Workers activate the ARA, clip it to their workwear and get on with the job. When gas concentrations exceed the preset alarm threshold, the ARA responds immediately with audible, visual and vibrating alarms. When the instrument reaches the end of its operating life, it is replaced.

Available in H2S, CO, SO2 and O2 configurations, the ARA covers the four most common personal gas monitoring requirements across Australian industry. Each model is tuned for its specific gas type, with operating temperatures, detection ranges and alarm set points appropriate to the hazards associated with that gas.

Hibernation Mode for Intermittent Users

The standard ARA runs continuously for 24 months from activation. For H2S and CO users who work on site intermittently – contractors, project workers, hire fleet users – the hibernation model allows the instrument to be powered down between uses, pausing the operating life countdown. With up to 12 months of accumulated hibernation available, the hibernation models can deliver up to 36 months of effective service life within a 3-year warranty period. To distinguish hibernation models, they feature two coloured lines on the label instead of the single thicker line on standard models.

Event Logging and Configuration via IR Link

The ARA IR Link is an optional accessory that allows the instrument to communicate with a PC using infrared, enabling download of the 30 most recent event logs including gas alarm events, bump test and calibration records, user ID and instrument settings. The ARA DOCK4 calibration station takes fleet management further, allowing up to 4 ARA instruments to be bump tested or calibrated simultaneously, reducing gas usage and testing time.

Built for Daily Industrial Use

Weighing just 92 grams and designed to sit comfortably on workwear throughout a full shift, the ARA is built for practical daily use in oil and gas, chemical, manufacturing, water and wastewater, aerospace and power generation applications. The self-test feature checks all three alarm types – audio, visual and vibration – in a single button press, reassuring users that the instrument is working before they enter a hazardous environment.

The ARA is available in H2S, CO, SO2 and O2 configurations. Each model is a single gas instrument, one unit monitors one gas type. Contact Gastech to confirm the right configuration for your application.

The standard ARA runs continuously for 24 months from activation. The hibernation model (available for H2S and CO only) can be powered down between uses, pausing the operating life countdown. With up to 12 months of accumulated hibernation, hibernation models can deliver up to 36 months of effective service life within a 3-year warranty.

No. The ARA is maintenance-free for the life of the instrument. The battery and sensor are not user-replaceable. ION Science recommends bump testing at least every 30 days to confirm the sensor is responding correctly.

Event logs are downloaded using the optional ARA IR Link accessory, which allows the instrument to communicate with a PC via infrared. Up to 30 recent events can be downloaded, along with instrument settings configuration.

Yes. The ARA DOCK4 calibration station supports simultaneous bump testing and calibration of up to 4 ARA units, reducing gas usage and testing time. The DOCK4 records calibration and bump test results with serial number, date and time.

The ARA displays a countdown of remaining life on screen. When the operating life expires, the instrument should be disposed of and replaced. The screen will show an end-of-life indication to alert the user.
