iAssign

Worker and Location Tracking for Gas Detectors

iAssign by Industrial Scientific adds worker and location details to Ventis Pro5 gas monitor data. Workers tap a programmed iAssign Tag to their instrument to log in, and intrinsically safe iAssign Beacons add the site location automatically as they move. When a gas alarm goes off, safety managers know who was exposed, where it happened and when, making compliance reporting more accurate and incident investigations faster.

KEY BENEFITS

  •   Workers tap an iAssign Tag at the start of a shift, and all data and alarms carry their name
  •   iAssign Beacons automatically assign location names to instruments based on proximity via Bluetooth: no manual input required
  •   Works without fixed wireless infrastructure, with data downloaded at the docking station
  •   Alert workers when they enter restricted areas using proximity alarms configured through the iAssign app
  •   Man Down alarm pause feature: Beacons can automatically pause Man Down alarms in configured areas for a set duration

Know Who Was Exposed and Where

Gas detectors record gas readings and alarm events. What they don’t record on their own is who was carrying the instrument and where they were on site. After an incident, that usually means cross checking shift records and paper logs.

iAssign removes that step. Using NFC Tags and Bluetooth Beacons, it adds worker identity and location to the data recorded by a Ventis Pro5. All the worker has to do is tap their tag at the start of the shift.

iAssign Tags: Tracking Workers

An iAssign Tag is a programmed NFC tag holding the worker’s name and details. At the start of a shift, the worker taps it to their Ventis Pro5, and the instrument links their identity to all data logs and alarm events for that shift.

Because the identity follows the tag, not the instrument, records stay accurate even when workers use a different instrument each day. The instrument can be set to remind workers to tap in at start up, or to require a tag before use.

iAssign Beacons: Tracking Locations

An iAssign Beacon is a small, intrinsically safe Bluetooth transmitter installed at a fixed location, such as a tank, process unit, confined space entry point or restricted area. It broadcasts a programmable site name and access level.

When a Ventis Pro5 comes within range, it adds the site name to its data log and alarm events. Beacon coverage can be set from 1 to 30 metres. Beacons run for up to four years, are rated IP65 and work from -40°C to 50°C, so they can be installed indoors or outdoors.

Proximity Alarms and Man Down Pause

Beacons can alert workers when they enter a restricted area. If the worker’s access level is lower than the Beacon’s, the instrument alarms. That helps manage worker clearances without separate devices, extra signage or physical barriers.

Beacons can also pause Man Down alarms for a set time in areas where workers routinely stand still, such as inspection points, reducing false alarms without switching the feature off.

Live Alerts and Data

When Ventis Pro5 monitors are connected to iNet live monitoring, alerts include the worker’s name and location. Without live monitoring, the tagged data downloads at the DSX Docking Station for analysis in iNet.

Simple to Set Up

Tags and Beacons are programmed in seconds with the free iAssign app on iOS or Android. No specialist hardware or IT support is needed.

iAssign Tags and Beacons work with the Industrial Scientific Ventis Pro5 multi gas monitor. If you have older Ventis Pro4 monitors in your fleet, talk to our Technical Consultants about compatibility.

No. Tags use NFC and Beacons use Bluetooth, and both work directly with the instrument, without Wi-Fi, cellular or other fixed infrastructure. Data is tagged on the instrument and downloaded through the DSX Docking Station.

An iAssign Tag is used to identify the worker. The worker taps it to the instrument at the start of a shift to associate their name with all data logged during that shift. An iAssign Beacon is installed at a fixed location and automatically assigns location information to the instrument when the worker comes within range, without any manual action required.

Yes. iAssign Beacons are intrinsically safe and can be installed in indoor or outdoor hazardous locations.

Tags and Beacons are programmed using the free iAssign app, available on iOS and Android. Programming takes seconds using any smartphone or tablet with NFC capability.

iAssign Beacons can be configured to automatically pause Man Down alarms on Ventis Pro5 instruments when the worker is within the Beacon's coverage area. The pause duration is configurable through the iAssign app and iNet Control. This is useful in areas where workers routinely stand still for extended periods, reducing false Man Down activations without disabling the alarm entirely.
