Tiger XTL
Portable VOC Detector
The Tiger XTL by ION Science is the low cost, high performance option in the Tiger XT range. It uses the same patented PID technology, with a humidity resistant and anti contamination design, and responds in under 2 seconds. It measures VOCs from 0.1 ppm to 5,000 ppm and runs for up to 24 hours on a charge, making it a reliable, practical choice for general field VOC detection.
KEY BENEFITS
- Same patented Fence Electrode Technology as the Tiger XT for humidity resistance and anti-contamination performance
- Under 2-second T90 response time for fast detection in the field
- Up to 24 hours of battery life on a single Li-ion charge, enough for a full shift and more
- IP65 ingress protection for outdoor and industrial environments
- Push-to-log data logging across 128 zones with 80,000 data points

Low on Cost, High on Performance
Not all VOC monitoring needs ppb level detection or advanced software features. Many sites just need a rugged, reliable instrument that measures VOCs accurately across a practical range, day in and day out. That’s what the Tiger XTL is built for.
ION Science describes it as low on cost and high on performance. It uses ION Science’s patented PID sensor technology, with a humidity resistant and anti contamination design that gives accurate readings and long run times in the field.
What It Shares With the Tiger XT
The Tiger XTL has the same rugged build and IP65 rating as the Tiger XT, the same under 2 second T90 response time and up to 24 hours of battery life. It survives demanding outdoor and industrial work just as well.
Simple, one handed operation works even when wearing thick gloves. A large backlit display is easy to read in any light, an integrated torch helps when directing the probe into dim areas, and the keypad lights up automatically in low light.
Where It Differs From the Tiger XT
The Tiger XTL measures VOCs from 0.1 ppm to 5,000 ppm with the standard 10.6 eV lamp. It doesn’t offer PPB sensitivity, other lamp options or the Tiger XT’s software upgrades.
Data logging is push to log, across 128 zones with 80,000 data points. Online registration extends the warranty to two years.
For routine site inspection, general VOC screening and confined space checks where ppm level readings are enough, the Tiger XTL does the job at a lower cost.
Designed for Easy Servicing
The Tiger XTL is designed to keep downtime low. Its intrinsically safe design means batteries can be changed in potentially explosive atmospheres, and a push to release button makes battery changes quick and secure.
Low cost filters and lamps can be changed in minutes, without sending the instrument away. ION Science recommends a factory service and calibration once a year.
Typical applications include environmental monitoring, soil contamination, landfill VOCs, confined space entry, emergency response, wing tank entry, medical gases in hospitals and fugitive emissions.

The Tiger XTL detects VOCs from 0.1 ppm to 5,000 ppm. It does not support PPB sensitivity, the 750-compound gas table or the range of software upgrades available on the Tiger XT. Warranty registration extends to 2 years rather than 5 years. The Tiger XT is the appropriate choice when sub-ppm detection, a broader gas library or advanced upgrade capability is required. For routine general-purpose VOC screening where ppm-range detection is sufficient, the Tiger XTL delivers fully adequate performance at a lower cost.
No. PPB sensitivity is not available on the Tiger XTL. If ppb-level detection is required, the Tiger XT with the PPB upgrade is the appropriate instrument.
Yes. The Tiger XTL has been designed for battery replacement in potentially explosive environments due to its intrinsically safe design.
ION Science recommends a factory service and calibration once a year. Filters typically need replacing after around 100 hours of use, depending on the application and environment.
Register the Tiger XTL online within one month of purchase to extend the standard warranty to 2 years.
