Radius BZ1

Portable Area Gas Monitor

The Radius BZ1 by Industrial Scientific is a rugged, portable area monitor that detects up to seven hazards at once and can connect a whole worksite through LENS Wireless. It can be deployed in seconds and left in the field for up to 75 days on a single charge, depending on configuration, or indefinitely with external power. With 24 sensor options including PID, three LEL types and gamma radiation, DualSense Technology, 105 dB alarms, custom alarm messages and the largest display of any area monitor, it’s built for the world’s harshest environments.

KEY BENEFITS

  •   Up to 75 days on a single charge, depending on configuration, or unlimited with external power
  •   Detects up to 7 hazards at once from 24 sensor options, including PID, three LEL types and gamma radiation
  •   DualSense Technology uses two sensors for the same gas: increasing detection reliability without additional hardware

The Area Monitor Built to Stay in the Field

Most area monitors come back in for charging or maintenance after a few days. The Radius BZ1 stays out longer. In a standard four gas setup with the MPS LEL sensor, it runs for up to 75 days on its built in battery. With an infrared LEL sensor, it runs for up to 50 days, or 30 days with wireless on.

With external power, including ISC’s Solar Power Supply, runtime is unlimited. For long turnarounds, perimeter monitoring and remote sites, that means more time protecting the worksite and less time in the workshop.

Seven Hazards. One Instrument.

All the critical technology, including sensors, software, pump and wireless, sits inside the swappable SafeCore Module. Through it, the Radius BZ1 detects up to seven hazards at once from 24 sensor options.

There are three types of LEL sensor: catalytic bead, infrared and MPS. Electrochemical options cover gases including CO, H2S, O2, NH3, HCN, NO, NO2, SO2, Cl2, ClO2, HCl, PH3 and H2. A PID covers VOCs, and a gamma sensor detects radiation alongside gases, which suits hazmat teams and public event safety.

DualSense Technology fits two sensors for the same gas. If one fails, the other keeps detecting. The DSX Docking Station automates bump testing, calibration and software updates.

Alarms That Can’t Be Missed

When an alarm goes off, it’s hard to miss and hard to misread. The 105 dB alarm cuts through high noise areas. Red LEDs signal gas alarms, and blue LEDs signal non gas events, so workers know why the monitor is alarming without walking up to it.

Custom alarm messages, such as “EVACUATE” or “VENTILATE”, tell workers exactly what to do. ISC says the display is three times larger than those of competing area monitors, so readings can be seen from a distance.

Connected Across the Site

Optional LENS Wireless creates a peer to peer network between Radius BZ1 units and Ventis Pro5 personal monitors, out of the box, with no setup or extra equipment. Units share gas readings and alarms up to 300 metres apart, and network hopping extends coverage up to 1.5 km.

Readings can also be shared locally through relay control and Modbus, or remotely through iNet live monitoring. The Radius BZ1 also works with SAFER One plume modelling software, which shows where a leak is coming from and where it’s heading.

Four Ways to Deploy

Perimeter monitoring: place units around a tank, hot work area or known hazard to watch for leaks.

Fence line monitoring: create a barrier between safe and hazardous areas, using LENS network hopping to cover up to 1.5 km.

Confined space monitoring: use the pumped SafeCore Module and tubing to draw air from inside the space to the monitor outside.

Public event monitoring: cover venues, entry points and crowd perimeters at concerts, festivals and sporting events.

It depends on the sensors fitted. A standard four gas setup with the MPS LEL sensor runs for up to 75 days. With an infrared LEL sensor, it runs for up to 50 days, or 30 days with wireless on. With an external power supply, including ISC's Solar Power Supply, runtime is unlimited.

The SafeCore Module is the removable sensor assembly of the Radius BZ1. It contains the sensors and is swappable between Radius BZ1 units without tools, allowing sensors to be reconfigured, moved between units and maintained independently of the base. The DSX Docking Station automates bump testing, calibration and software updates for the SafeCore Module.

LENS Wireless is Industrial Scientific's optional peer-to-peer mesh wireless network that connects Radius BZ1 area monitors and compatible personal gas monitors. Networks form automatically out of the box with no setup or extra equipment. Units share real-time gas readings and alarms up to 300 m line-of-sight. Multiple network groups can be configured for large sites.

DualSense Technology installs two sensors of the same type in the SafeCore Module for redundant gas detection. If one sensor degrades or fails, the second continues to monitor. This provides a meaningful safety net for units deployed for extended periods without maintenance.

Yes. A gamma enabled SafeCore Module lets the Radius BZ1 detect radiation alongside gases, giving hazmat teams and event safety crews a fuller picture in one instrument. Talk to our Technical Consultants about current availability.

The optional integral pump draws samples from up to 30 metres (100 feet) through tubing, suitable for confined space monitoring without positioning the unit inside the hazard zone.
