Sensepoint XCD
Fixed Gas Detector
The Honeywell Sensepoint XCD is a fixed gas transmitter for continuous monitoring of flammable, toxic and oxygen gases in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas. Available in three configurations on the same transmitter platform — the standard XCD, the XCD RFD for remote flammable detection and the XCD RTD for remote toxic and oxygen detection — the Sensepoint XCD covers virtually any fixed gas monitoring installation requirement. Plug-in stainless steel sensor cartridges, non-intrusive one-man magnetic calibration, auto-inhibit during maintenance to prevent false alarms, a tri-colour backlit LCD and 4-20 mA plus Modbus RTU outputs make it a proven and practical choice for industrial fixed gas detection across Australia and internationally.
KEY BENEFITS
- Three configurations on one platform: standard, remote flammable and remote toxic and oxygen detection
- Remote sensor mounting up to 30 metres from the transmitter for hard-to-reach, concealed and restricted-access locations where a standard detector cannot be positioned
- Plug-in stainless steel sensor cartridge automatically recognised by the transmitter on insertion, reducing replacement time and eliminating configuration errors
- Non-intrusive one-man magnetic calibration and adjustment without opening the housing, removing the need for hot work permits in hazardous areas

One Platform. Three Configurations.
The Sensepoint XCD has been a workhorse of industrial fixed gas detection for many years. Its strength is the flexibility of the platform. The same transmitter supports flammable, toxic and oxygen sensors, standard and remote mounting, and sensor technologies for applications from petrochemical sites to gas turbine enclosures. Choosing the right configuration starts with where the sensor needs to go.
Standard Sensepoint XCD
The standard XCD comes with a pre installed stainless steel sensor cartridge, tested and calibrated, ready to install in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas. It’s available in flammable, toxic and oxygen versions, with the same transmitter and display. The transmitter recognises the plug in sensor type automatically. It’s the right choice where the detector can be mounted at the point of detection.
Sensepoint XCD RFD: Remote Flammable Detector
The XCD RFD is for sites where the flammable gas sensor needs to sit away from the transmitter, or somewhere the transmitter can’t easily be reached. The sensor mounts up to 30 metres from the transmitter, so the transmitter can be placed where maintenance is easy.
The RFD supports high temperature catalytic bead and infrared sensors, for gas turbine enclosures, solvent based printing and coating ovens, and other hot or hard to reach spots. It complies with HSE Guidance Note PM84 for gas turbine enclosure monitoring.
Sensepoint XCD RTD: Remote Toxic Detector
The XCD RTD applies the same idea to toxic and oxygen sensors. The sensor can be mounted remotely in places that are hard to reach, high or low in a room, or outside the area being monitored, while the transmitter stays accessible.
Non Intrusive Operation
All XCD settings, including scale, range, relay operation, alarm set points and tag number, can be changed through the LCD and magnetic switches, without opening the housing. That allows one person to carry out routine maintenance, and Honeywell says it removes the need for hot work permits in hazardous areas.
Outputs are inhibited automatically during adjustment, which reduces the risk of false alarms at the control panel during maintenance.
Clear Status at a Glance
The large tri colour backlit LCD uses traffic light colours. It’s steady green for normal operation, flashing yellow for a fault or warning, and flashing red for an alarm. Anyone in the area can see a detector’s status at a glance, even from a distance. That’s especially useful where a detector is hard to reach or several are installed close together.
Sensor Technology
Flammable gas detection uses long life, poison resistant catalytic bead sensors as standard. Infrared hydrocarbon sensors are a poison immune alternative where catalyst poisons are present. Toxic and oxygen detection uses Honeywell’s patented Surecell sensors for long service life. Plug in sensors keep downtime low and ongoing costs down.

The standard XCD is for direct mounting at the point of detection in Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas. The XCD RFD mounts the flammable gas sensor up to 30 metres from the transmitter, suited to hard-to-access, high-temperature and restricted-access locations. The XCD RTD does the same for toxic and oxygen sensors. All three use the same transmitter platform and display. Contact Gastech to confirm the right variant for your installation.
Auto-inhibit automatically suppresses the 4-20 mA output and alarm relay outputs while calibration or adjustment is being performed. This prevents false alarms from reaching the control panel during routine maintenance without any manual intervention from the control room. It means one technician can calibrate the XCD independently without coordinating with the control room or isolating outputs manually.
No. Calibration and all adjustments are performed via non-intrusive magnetic switches through the sealed housing without opening it. This eliminates the need for hot work permits in hazardous areas.
The XCD RFD supports flammable sensor mounting up to 30 metres from the transmitter. The XCD RTD also supports remote mounting for toxic and oxygen sensors. Talk to our Technical Consultants to confirm the distance for your installation.
Surecell is Honeywell's patented sensor technology used for toxic and oxygen detection in the Sensepoint XCD. It provides long service life and reliable detection across a wide range of industrial gases. Surecell sensors are supplied in plug-in cartridges that the transmitter automatically recognises on insertion.
Yes. The XCD is rated IP66 and is supplied with a weatherproof cap as standard. Optional sunshade and deluge protection accessories are available for the most demanding outdoor environments.
