XNX Universal Transmitter
Fixed Gas Detector
The Honeywell XNX Universal Transmitter is a high-specification fixed gas transmitter compatible with the widest range of sensors on a common platform. Supporting electrochemical, catalytic bead, infrared and open-path infrared gas detection technologies, the XNX works with Honeywell Analytics’ own Searchline Excel, Searchpoint Optima and other detectors, as well as industry-standard PLCs and third-party gas monitoring controllers via standard 4-20 mA and HART, with optional Modbus and Foundation Fieldbus communications. With over 200 unique configurations, SIL2 functional safety certification, Class I and Class II Division 1 and 2 approvals and a choice of aluminium or marine-grade stainless steel housings, the XNX is a proven platform for upstream and downstream oil and gas, chemical, water and wastewater and other demanding industries.

One Transmitter for Mixed Sensor Technologies
Sites that run several sensor technologies across a range of detectors often end up with several transmitter types, each with its own wiring, setup, spare parts and training. The XNX reduces that complexity.
One transmitter platform supports electrochemical, catalytic bead, millivolt infrared and open path infrared sensors. It works on a digital bus with Honeywell’s Searchline Excel and Searchpoint Optima detectors, and connects to industry standard PLCs, DCS systems and third party controllers. For large sites with mixed detection needs, that means fewer transmitter types, fewer spares and simpler training.
More than 200 configurations are available, covering Zone 1 and Zone 2, North American Class I and Class II Division 1 and 2, and intrinsically safe and explosion proof requirements. Each installation can be configured to what it needs, without paying for capability it doesn’t.
Non Intrusive Setup
The XNX is fully configurable through non intrusive magnetic switches, using the magnetic wand supplied with each unit. Setup, calibration and navigation are done through the glass window, without opening the explosion proof enclosure.
The 2.5 inch backlit dot matrix LCD shows the gas reading, gas name and units, alarm and fault status, and a bar graph. The XNX stores at least 1,280 alarm and fault events, and can simulate alarms to test the system.
An optional local HART adapter fits one of the cable entries, giving an intrinsically safe port for a handheld HART configurator.
Outputs and Communications
The standard output is 4-20 mA with HART. The 4-20 mA can be set as sink, source or isolated, to suit the site’s wiring layout.
One option module can be added. The relay module gives three SPDT relays (two alarm, one fault), rated 250 VAC 5 A or 24 VDC 5 A, with an external reset input. The Modbus module gives an isolated RS485 connection to a multi drop network of up to 254 XNX transmitters. The Foundation Fieldbus module connects to a multi drop Foundation Fieldbus H1 network.
The modules are mutually exclusive, so choose the one that fits your control system.
Housing and Mounting
The XNX comes in painted LM25 aluminium alloy or marine grade 316 stainless steel, for corrosive, offshore and coastal sites. It has five cable entries: M25 on ATEX and IECEx versions, or 3/4 inch NPT on UL and CSA versions. Sensors can be mounted locally or remotely.
Integral lugs allow wall mounting. Optional kits are available for 100 to 150 mm pipe and for ceiling mounting.
SIL 2 for Safety Instrumented Systems
The XNX is assessed to IEC 61508 for use in SIL 2 safety systems. For process industries that need formal functional safety assessments, that simplifies the compliance paperwork.

The XNX supports electrochemical, catalytic bead, millivolt infrared and open-path infrared sensor technologies on one common platform. It also works natively on a digital bus with Honeywell's Searchline Excel and Searchpoint Optima detectors, and connects to industry-standard PLCs and controllers via 4-20 mA, HART, Modbus and Foundation Fieldbus. This broad compatibility reduces the number of different transmitter types needed across a mixed-technology site.
The XNX carries TUV EN 61508 SIL2 component certification, confirming it is suitable for use as a component in safety instrumented systems at Safety Integrity Level 2. This is required documentation for formal functional safety assessments in process industries.
The XNX has 4-20 mA with HART as standard, and the 4-20 mA can be set as sink, source or isolated. One option module can be added: relays, Modbus (isolated RS485) or Foundation Fieldbus H1. The option modules are mutually exclusive.
Yes. The XNX is fully configurable through non intrusive magnetic switches, using the magnetic wand supplied with each unit. An optional local HART adapter also gives an intrinsically safe port for a handheld HART configurator.
Aluminium alloy for standard industrial installations and marine-grade 316 stainless steel for corrosive, offshore and coastal environments. Both are available with five port configurations in metric or NPT entries.
The optional relay module provides three fully user-configurable relays: two SPCO alarm relays and one SPCO fault relay. Each can be switched based on current gas level and transmitter status.
