Silo-Chek
Phosphine Monitor for Grain Fumigation
The Silo-Chek by Canary Co is a portable phosphine monitor designed and built in Australia specifically for detecting phosphine (PH3) levels in stored grain and horticultural products during fumigation. With a monitoring range of 0 to 2000 ppm, high selectivity to phosphine and zero interference from carbon monoxide, the Silo-Chek gives fumigation operators accurate, reliable readings throughout the fumigation process. It is the cost-effective solution for on-farm fumigation monitoring, helping growers maximise treatment efficiency while minimising gas usage.
KEY BENEFITS
- Designed and manufactured in Australia
- Simple to operate
- High accuracy sensor with high selectivity to phosphine
- Zero interference from carbon monoxide, reads accurately to 1 ppm even when CO is present
- Backlit digital display for clear readings in all conditions

The Phosphine Monitor Built for Australian Grain Storage
The Silo-Chek is purpose-built for one job: accurately measuring phosphine concentrations in grain silos, storage containers and horticultural products during fumigation. Designed and manufactured in Australia by Canary Co, it was developed specifically to address the shortcomings of other fumigation monitors, particularly their susceptibility to interference from carbon monoxide, a gas commonly present in grain that has been stored for several months.
Unlike competing instruments where CO can cause significant reading errors, the Silo-Chek’s electrochemical sensing element has nil interference from carbon monoxide, giving operators confidence that the readings they see reflect actual phosphine concentration. With a linear response from 0 to 2000 ppm and the ability to read accurately down to 1 ppm, the Silo-Chek covers the full concentration range encountered throughout a typical grain fumigation program, from initial gas introduction through to clearance verification.
Built for the Field
The Silo-Chek is supplied in an automatic pumped configuration, ready for immediate use from its padded vinyl carry pouch with belt and waist loop. The unit ships complete with inline dust filter, tubing connector, calibration tool, 9V DC alkaline battery and instruction manual. The large 13 mm 3.5-digit LCD display provides easy-to-read concentration values at a glance, with an LCD and LED low battery warning ensuring operators always know when a battery replacement is needed.
Cost-Effective Fumigation Management
The Silo-Chek pays back growers quickly when used regularly during fumigation by giving operators the information they need to use the right amount of gas at the right time. By tracking phosphine concentration throughout the treatment, operators can maximise the efficiency of the fumigation process, achieve full treatment efficacy and minimise gas wastage. The 6-monthly recommended calibration interval and 2-year sensor life keep ongoing maintenance costs low.
Important Note on Application
The Silo-Chek is manufactured to detect fumigation-level phosphine concentrations above 1 ppm and is designed for fumigation monitoring applications. It is not intended for personal safety monitoring where low-level toxic phosphine exposure is the concern. For safety monitoring applications in the 0 to 20 ppm range, the Canary Co Silo-Safe is the appropriate instrument.
